Many Pa. hospitals in the red, study says

Article Abstract:

Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council released a financial report regarding the state's acute care hospitals during a three-year period. The period, July 1994 to June 1997, cites that at least a third of the state's acute-care hospitals are in financial trouble. Report cites rising expenses and uncompensated care as adding to hospitals' financial woes. Many say the report is dated as it does not reflect the change in Medicare and Medicaid rates, and many of the hospitals since the study have either filed for bankruptcy or undergoing major changes.
