Article Abstract:
Pharmaceutical firm Merck & Co. Inc. announced February 12, 2004 that it would provide its medicines for free to low-income Medicare beneficiaries who had exhausted the US$600 limit on their drug benefit cards. Merck's offer was in anticipation of a range of new Medicare-approved drug-discount cards due spring 2004, and about 4.7 million senior citizens are expected to be eligible for the US$600 annual allowance toward drug costs on the government-endorsed discount cards.
