Oils fields' gush for computers: High-tech advances have helped the industry improve efficiency and precision
Article Abstract:
Oil companies hope to improve the efficiency and precision of operations by enabling oil rigs crews and petroleum engineers to share real-time drilling and production data and also by the introduction of drill bits with mini computers that can instantaneously relay information from deep under the ground areas to the scientists around the globe. Some of the oil companies benefited by this plan include ChevronTexaco and Royal/Dutch Shell, Occidental Petroleum and Devon Energy and others.
