Planners take over Alcoa HQ

Southwestern Pennsylvania Corp., a nonprofit organization engaged in regional planning and development, intends to introduce improvements and upgrades in the former Alcoa headquarters facility in Pittsburgh, PA. The renovation plan includes the installation of conference rooms and exhibits in the building's first, second and top floors. The expansion is expected to be financed by the state government of Pennsylvania, with some of the funds sourced from outside investors. The move is part of the efforts of the organization to entice other nonprofit entities into pooling their resources together and enhancing inter-organizational communications.

Upscale housing for elderly planned
Article Abstract:
Brookdale Living Communities, a Chicago, IL-based upscale housing developer for the elderly, plans to construct two retirement centers in the North and South Hills of Pittsburgh, PA, valued at $30 million. Under a preliminary agreement, Brookdale will lease hospital-owned land in Mt. Lebanon and McCandles in Pittsburgh, PA, from UPMC Health System. The move is in line with industry trends involving partnerships between assisted living and independent living centers aimed at extending the reach of health care as well as reducing costs. UPMC plans to expand its regional health network by adding assisted-living centers for senior citizens.

Transarc to occupy former WE location
Article Abstract:
Transarc, an IBM software subsidiary, will occupy 154,000-sq-ft space at the Westinghouse Building owned by CBS Corp. in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. Under the 10-year lease with, Transarc will occupy the fifth, eight, ninth, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd floors in the building located at the corner of Stanwix Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard. Renny Clarkm CBS' director of corporate services in Pittsburgh, said Transarc has the option of taking another 19,000-sq-ft floor in 2000 and five more floors in years 2001 through 2005.
