Panera Bread Co., a St. Louis company operating in the Philadelphia region competes in the densely populated sector of the restaurant business called "quick-casual", mixing aspects of fast food and casual full-service restaurants, where the aim is to offer lunch or dinner to customers in a few minutes. These restaurants are responding to a powerful consumer trend, a desire for fresh, quickly delivered food served in an atmosphere that makes the customers hang around.
