B2bdiversity to be a corporate 'dating service'

With plans to launch in September, B2bdiversity.com will help large companies find women- and minority-owned companies with which to do business. Founder Dina Rosenberg is looking for additional funding. Her Philadelphia-based firm will also help the smaller companies learn how to best use B2B e-commerce, expected to reach $2.4 trillion by 2004.

Seed company Burpee makes Chapter 11 filing; the firm's chairman said some acquisitions had not paid off

W. Atlee Burpee & Co.'s parent, Burpee Holding Co., has filed for Chapter 11 protection. The 125-year old seed and mail order company cites certain acquisitions and an attempt at retailing from stores as the reasons for its financial problems. Even though the picture is getting better, creditors are not willing to wait. PNC Financial Services Group Inc. is owed $16.6 million.
