Steelers pick site
Article Abstract:
Pennsylvania's Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team has selected the co-called east site for the location of its 65,000-sq-ft football stadium. The parcel, which won over the west site, includes the vacant former warehouse of Kaufmann on the North Shore and parking lots. Steelers vice president and General counsel Art Rooney II cited advantages offered by the east site in the decision, such as larger space with better orientation toward the river and more room around the stadium. Rooney added that the process of initiating work on the new stadium will be bolstered with only a single existing structure to be acquired and demolished.

Big bank takeover defense bill resurrected
Article Abstract:
A new law that seeks to protect banks with over $10 billion in deposits from hostile takeovers has been passed in Pennsylvania. The legislation, which contains the provision known as the Mellon provision since only Mellon and PNC Bank Corp. are expected to benefit from it, passed via a majority vote in the state Legislature's House Judiciary Committee on Sep. 29, 1998. The new law, which prohibits out-of-state firms from purchasing over 5% of a Pennsylvania bank's outstanding shares, is expected to be subjected to a full House vote as early as the first week of October 1998.
