$1.6 million in endowments reported gone from N.J. hospital
Article Abstract:
Up to $1.6 million in restricted endowment funds were misappropriated by the Rancocas Hospital. This is according to the office of the New Jersey Attorney General. Mark Siman, the assistant attorney general, stated that Rancocas utilized the funds for general operating costs and to pay off creditors. Rancocas attorneys explained to Superior Court Judge Harold B. Wells that Allegheny, the hospital's former owner, guaranteed it would repay the funds. Judge Wells gave Rancocas until December 21, 1998 to account for the money.
