Tireless 'til the End
Article Abstract:
The Zimmerman Agency has won Continental General Tire's advertising account after persevering during a lengthy review that began with 16 contenders. Continental spent five months studying bids for the business, worth an estimated $8.5 to $10 million, before selecting two finalists who gave presentations in marathon sessions. Senior executives wanted to learn about the agencies from what Continental calls a 'thinking perspective,' eventually choosing Zimmerman to handle all national branding for the company's product lines with advertising targeting retailers and distributors. Print, broadcast and promotional work will target consumers, and the shop will handle public relations and Internet activities as well.

Too Few Takers for Bayou Tourism
Article Abstract:
Louisiana has a $10 million review underway in order to select an agency for its yearly tourism account, but so far only two contenders have emerged. Peter A. Mayer of New Orleans, incumbent since 1993, is defending its business along with a team of partners against competitor Montgomery Shire & Partners. Each shop will make its final 90-minute presentation in Apr 1999. There are two renewal options on the one-year contract; Mayer is subcontracting with several instate shops, while MS&P is leading a team involving Multi-Image Resource Group and Capital Communications. State officials were surprised that no other agencies bid on the review.
