A hybrid with the best of both worlds: neither a deposit account nor a current account, the high interest cheque account combines characteristics of both making it very useful for people who need to have easy access to their money without losing interest
Article Abstract:
High Interest Cheque Accounts (HICAs) offer a combination of high interest rates and easy access. They provide cheque book facilities and some offer cash cards, direct debits and overdrafts. The more favourable interest rates are for those accounts with more limited access and fewer facilitie, and interest is usually tiered. Many high street banks and building societies offer HICAs although the interest rates are not usually as high as for smaller institutions.

The world according to Goodhart
Article Abstract:
The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) includes the economist, Charles Goodhart. He sees pound sterling as likely to drop in value since differences between United Kingdom interest rates and those in Europe and Japan are likely to decrease. The MPC decides on interest rates and the Bank of England has an inflation target. This target may be ignored over the short term if a shock to the economy occurred, for example due to petroleum price rises.

Out with the old: Entrepreneurs are a popular market for private banks. But many of the self made could do more with their newly created wealth, if they began planning for it earlier
Article Abstract:
The most promising source of business for private banks is the modern, wealth creating entrepreneur. However private banks and their entrepreneurial clients often do not benefit to the full from their relationship. Many entrepreneurs have personal finances that are in a worse shape than their commercial ones, and they are often so engrossed in business deals that it is not until the last moment that they realise that they require expert help.
