A ship for all reasons

Article Abstract:

A joint littoral supremacy ship would expand the combat capabilities of a fleet at less cost than separate, specialized platforms. The multmission ship would combine strike, antiair, antisurface and antisubmarine weapins with amphibious capabilities. Among its advantages are potential cost savings in production and maintenance, greater flexibility, wide variety of options without disclosing intent during a crisis and high cargo- and supply-carrying potential.

Tomorrow's fleet

Article Abstract:

The Navy of 2025 will certainly have many highly capable and and highly sopihisticated multi-mission warships which will carry different, state- of-the-art, brilliant weapons and offboard systems. However, this future naval force will be considerably restricted in its ability to provide a meaningful presence in regions considered critical by US leaders if broad innovations in force employment and operational concepts are not developed and put in place.
