After the mayhem, will business return?
Article Abstract:
The Los Angeles riot of May, 1992, raises considerable doubt that new businesses will venture into Los Angeles. This is a major blow to minority community activists, who have spent years trying to persuade businesses to open in their neighborhoods. One retailer, Food 4 Less, which suffered damage at 40 of its 208 Los Angeles stores, spoke for many local retailers when it underscored its commitment to the minority communities where it operates but said it is uncertain whether the stores affected by the riot will be reopened.

Return to turf wars: real estate firms, brandishing an array of marketing skills honed during the recession, now find themselves squaring off in a fierce battle for share
Article Abstract:
The recession-bound real estate industry is showing signs of recovery. Home sales are up 13.2% for 1992 and realtors are scrambling to corner a share of the market. Re/Max, Century 21 and Coldwell Banker, all top contenders, have initiated aggressive, innovative marketing programs. Re/Max in particular has realized huge gains through a strategy that rewards agent performance.
