Amstrad pays the price of Sugar

Article Abstract:

Amstrad has seen a rise in its share price but is still undervalued. The company is a third owned by Alan Sugar who attempted to take Amstrad private during 1992. The company has since shed its ACE consumer electronics activities and injected funds into Betacom in which Amstrad holds a 66% stake. Dancall reported its first profit in 4th qtr 1996. Amstrad belives it can win orders from BSkyB for digital satellite TV decoders, and there are other new products from the compoany which should sell well.

Olivetti: credibility under fire

Article Abstract:

Corrado Passera, joint chief executive at Olivetti, is leaving the group. Olivetti is undergoing restructuring following losses over five years and carried out a rights issue in Dec 1996. The share price has since dropped. Carlo de Benedetti, joint chief executive of the group, has been sentenced to jail for his role in the collapse of a bank. He maintains he is innocent but this does not reassure shareholders. Francisco Caio has been mentioned as a possible successor to Passera.
