Companies somehow managed to comply with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2004, but such an approach will not be feasible in the long term. Guidelines for a more sustainable program are presented, including avoiding complacency, clarifying compliance roles, regular risk assessment, addressing significant deficiencies, and automation of manual processes.
