Assembly work in Indonesia and in Sweden - ergonomics, health and satisfaction

Article Abstract:

A survey of Swedish and Indonesian assembly industry workers reveals a higher prevalence of stress and psychosomatic symptoms among Swedish workers, due to conflicts and harassment at work. Pressures arising from improper planning of jobs resulted in lower job satisfaction amongst the Swedes. Indonesians have physically heavier workloads, but less monotony and lower demands on productivity. Physical demands lead to musculoskeletal problems in both groups, and job confidence was a factor in job satisfaction.

Ergonomics, quality and continuous improvement - conceptual and empirical relationships in an industrial context

Article Abstract:

The relationships between the theories and methods in ergonomics and quality in the consequence, applications and process domains are discussed. A strong relationship is found between ergonomics and quality in the consequence domain with quality consequences such as deficiencies and waste affecting ergonomic consequences such as human error and discomfort. A weaker link is found in the applications domain with quality deficiencies affected by workplace design while no link is found in the process domain.

Cross-sectional study of risk factors for symptoms in the neck and shoulder area

Article Abstract:

Prevalence ratios (PR) calculated on the basis of responses to a questionnaire for symptoms of the neck and shoulder area revealed that immigrants, females and persons doing repetitive movement demanding precision work showed early symptoms. The Nordic questionnaire on musculoskeletal was put to 900 randomly drawn workers in a Swedish semi-rural area and asked ergonomic, psychological and organizational questions.
