AstraZeneca fails to quell doubters

Article Abstract:

AstraZeneca plans a major launch for the company's Nexium drug which is to replace Losec. The company faces competition from producers of generic drugs when Losec ceases to be protected by a patent from 2001. Astra's stock price has been volatile. The company aims to deliver over 15 drug candidates annually by 2003. Meanwhile, Novartis and AstraZeneca are to shed their agrochemicals activities to set up Syngenta, a new company, and that affects the policy of developing a life science company.
