Ian Mackintosh, the new chairman of the Accounting Standards Board (ASB), clarifies the role of the ASB as a national standard-setter in a world where international standards are coming to the fore. Macintosh hopes that once the standards are in use they would develop intellectual power, and people would start leaving old ideas behind.

The combination of the three organizations would create a single professional body of impressive scale and reach, spanning all sectors of the UK economy as well as strengthening the global reach of all the three bodies.
