British Airways aims to reduce costs and merge ist airline network with the network of American Airlines. The UK Office of Fair Trading has to decide on the merger. The company's share price has risen in 1996, but four brokers of a sample of six rate the shares a hold and two rate them a buy. The buyers are NatWest Securities and Kleinwort Benson which both see benefits from thelink with American Airlines. Holders include Panmure Gordon, Lehman Brothers and Yamaichi.

British Airways has seen a strong performance in its stock price despite a threatened strike and a drop in operating profit. Three brokers from a sample of six rate the company's stocks a buy, two rate them a hold and one is a seller. The buyers are Williams de Broe, Greig Middleton and UBS, which see the company's falling costs as a benefit. Credit Lyonnais Lang and Dresdner Kleinwort Bension are the holders, while the seller is ABN AMRO Hoare Govett.
