BIO reaches adolescence

Article Abstract:

The turnover of the staff at the United States Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) following the appointment of a politician James Greenwood in January 2005 to head it up suggest a new role for the organization. Greenwood's methodical reshaping of the organization's senior staff has sharply strengthened in-house advocacy expertise and activities in dealing with broad assortment of critical issues affecting their industry.

Pessimistic response to FDA leadership change

Article Abstract:

The appointment of Andrew von Eschenbach as acting commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) comes at a time when the agency is already under intense pressure and scrutiny over a number of issues. The lack of uncertainty in the FDA is likely to further demonstrate agency decision-making and force biotechnology companies into pharmaceutical alliances rather than going it alone in seeking drug approval.

Agbiotech firms realign product focus

The Biotechnology Industry Organization's (BIO) vice president for food and agriculture Val Giddings specifies that the agbiotech firms in United States and Canada are progressing with a clear objective to realign the development of cotton, corn and oilseeds. This would be done specifically in those areas that seem to be the most beneficial.
