Baldwin serves up more bad news

Baldwin has been affected by a rise in the value of the French franc which has hit its campsite and mobile homes activities in France. Mobile homes account for nearly 60% of the company's sales and four fifths of profits. The company has announced a write-down to zero of a stake of 5% in Greenhills. The company's pre-tax profit from 15 restaurants was 7,000 pounds sterling for 1994 to 1995. Baldwin's pre-tax profit is estimated at 2.8 million pounds sterling for 1995 to 1996 by Beeson Gregory.

Woodstock is a UK company which plans to open four pubs and two restaurants annually from funds raised in a share issue. The company was created from a merger between Kingston, a pub group with 45 outlets under management and Blenheim, a chain of restaurants. The company's revenue is forecast at 5 million pounds sterling for 1996 when the operating profit is forecast at 450,000 pounds. The company's shares are assessed as fairly priced in Jul 1996.
