Britain's twin deficits
Article Abstract:
Britain's twin deficits on external deficit on trade and current account and on the Budget are both too large, and may threaten their ability to sustain strong growth over the medium-term. Deficits make them vulnerable to violent changes in market sentiment, triggering speculative attacks against the pound and the sterling strength can be transformed abruptly into a free fall, necessitating higher interest rates and other forms of strict measures.
