Broker's tips

Article Abstract:

New investment clubs should initially select a stockbroker, and some brokers have services tailored to investment clubs. One person in the club should be responsible for the paperwork, and the broker should speak to one person so confusion does not arise over dealing instructions. Brokers will need some information, such as the club's rules. Investors should ask for information from brokers such as whether advice and research are available, and if they have to be paid for.

Euro express

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom investors seeking to buy stocks in companies from other European countries cannot always find brokers who will act for them. Mainland European shares are becoming increasingly attractive, but brokers that offer dealing-only services may not handle non-UK stocks, and Charles Schwab will do so, but will not place them in a personal equity plan. Improvements are likely, but they may not occur before individual savings accounts are introduced in 1999.

The City snubs Sid

Article Abstract:

Sahre ownership in the UK is becoming concentrated in large buyers such as institutions. The rules have also changed to the detriment of small investors. Large new issues of shares no longer have to be offered to the public, a move which is opposed by private investors. Such investors could be left with shares that institutions do not wish to buy. New issues could allow investors to make money in the 1980s but this is less true for the 1990s.
