Article Abstract:

Insiders bought stocks heavily from SouthTrust Corp., Santa Fe Energy Resources and Equity Inns Inc. The share price of SouthTrust Corp. increased by 20% since May, 1997, reaching the $45 level. This resulted from its acquisition of twelve branches of H.F. Ahmanson's Home Savings of America Unit. The share price of Santa Fe Energy Resources was also boosted by the spin-off of Monterey Resources, which was acquired by Texaco.
