The scales of injustice

Article Abstract:

Pay equity, meaning equal pay for what is deemed similar jobs of comparable value, for women is progressing in Canada due to legislation. In 1991 women 15 years and older earned an average of $26,842 in a full time position, compared to men who earned $38,567, but the gap between the two is down 2% from 1990. Throughout Canada, Ontario's pay equity legislation is the most advanced and comprehensive. Most employers, who have implemented pay equity standards, found that the cost of pay equity was outweighed by the advantages that included higher morale and increased efficiency.
