A voluntary vision

Article Abstract:

A United Kingdom national volunteering program is proposed by Community Service Volunteers (CVS) which has carried out a pilot program in 1996. The government plans to launch this program together with its Welfare to Work plan. There could be confusion between the two programs, especially since unemployed people will be involved in both of them. CSV is concerned that offering payment to volunteers would affect the type of people attracted. CSV has backing from labor unions and will not place volunteers in jobs that previously paid a salary.
