Article Abstract:

The UK Alternative Investment Market (AIM) represents greater risk levels than the Unlisted Securities Market and the Official List. The aim is to attract young companies which may be growing rapidly. Investors should ask a number of questions before making decisions about investing in this market. They should assess debt levels of companies, management's past performance, whether there are institutional shareholders, and levels of share ownership of the company's directors.

Article Abstract:

Private company sales in the UK have been encouraged by the proximity of a general election and the large number of institutions and trade buyers interested in acquisitions. There is concern that taxes could rise if the Labor party is elected to government. There are also factors deterring vendors, such as their involvement in their businesses which may be their only source of income, and the favorable environment for developing businesses in the UK in 1996.
