Chose your partners for the aerospace waltz

Article Abstract:

A merger is planned between Dasa and Aerospatiale Matra to create European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS). British Aerospace (BAe) saw a drop in its stock price of 4% following the announcement. EADS is aiming for a strong position in the European market, while BAe aims to compete in the world market. BAe could find that competition is reduced if Aerospatiale's Dassault, a competitor, is drawn closer into EADS. BAe and EAds are partners in some other activities such as missiles and the Airbus consortium.

The company's debts have been guaranteed by Daimler Benz, but the Dutch government, which hold a stake in Fokker, is seeking more information on Fokker's long-term plans before providing a further capital injection. McDonnell Douglas

Article Abstract:

McDonnell Douglas is a major global producer of military aircraft and the biggest defense contractor in the US. The company reported a rise in operating profit for its military aircraft of $200 million to $905 million for 1995, and orders for the F/A-18 and C-17 are strong. The commercial jet side did not perform so well. The number of defense companies has dropped in the US, and profits have increased despite a drop in demand for defense products.
