Clone on the range: What animal biotech is bringing to the table
Article Abstract:
The EnviroPig, a transgenic farm animal, developed by researchers at the University of Guelph in Ontario, carries a gene for phytase, which breaks down the phosphates in the pig's food, reducing phosphorus excretion in the animals waste by 30%. This would be a boon for many countries especially China, where 1.3 people share space with half of the worlds pigs.
