Collins asks Mullen to abandon winner-take-all for DD(X)

Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) has asked Adm. Michael Mullen, to be the next chief of naval operations and to abandon plans to give only one company the responsibility of building the next generation of DD (X) destroyers. Susan Collins and other senators from shipbuilding states are worried about the situation wherein due to lack of funds only one company will monopolize in building surface ships.

Senators concerned Navy may not compete LCS work
Article Abstract:
The United States Senators are worried that the Navy may order the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) from Lockheed Martin Corp. or General Dynamics Corp. without holding an open competition. The Navy is expected to give a detailed procurement contract plan for purchasing more LCS to the lawmakers.
