Improving manufacturing performance through scrap reduction at Belden Wire and Cable Company

Article Abstract:

The Belden Wire and Cable Co. implemented a scrap reduction program in an effort to improve performance. The key elements of the program include top management support, creation of cross-functional teams, establishment of a target scrap reduction rate, organization of quality improvement teams and implementation of manufacturing cells. The program successfully reduced scrap by 50% and increased revenues by 24%.

Article Abstract:

Binney and Smith Inc used to take a slow evolutionary approach to change until some blunt questions regarding production were asked by a prospective partner. The query induced management to formulate ways by which they could increase revenue and meet sales projections. The main result of the process was a high velocity management approach which the company successfully used to achieve its objectives.
