Crash course in market survival

Article Abstract:

Stock market crashes may be followed by a long period of declining stock prices, or they may be followed by a recovery. Equities tend to perform better than other types of investment over the longer term. Investors will be worst hit if they purchased stocks when prices were high. This does not mean they should sell, since they can obtain more for their stocks if they wait for a recovery. Stock price crashs also offer cheaper stocks for investors. Bear funds and guaranteed funds are ways of dealing with a bear market.

The impossible pursuit

Article Abstract:

Much research on stock price predictions is not accurate, and most research comes from the US so cannot easily be applied to the United Kingdom. A study from Loughborough University, England, found that returns are better in April than in summer each year, and that export or manufacturing growth correlate with lower returns. This could be explained by a drop in the risk premium. Stock prices are still unpredictable and research only explains part of price changes.
