DHS IG: Border surveillance tech should be more effective

Article Abstract:

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) inspector general (IG) has reported that the surveillance technology installed along the US borders is not as effective as it should be and it has also found problems in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to patrol borders. The Office of Border Patrol (OBP) within DHS uses cameras and sensors to detect and identify illegal border intrusions, but several limitations of border surveillance and remote assessment and monitoring technology and cost overruns in the procurement of the remote video surveillance (RVS) system has impeded the success of the Integrated Surveillance Intelligence System (ISIS).
