The United Kingdom Association of Investment Trust Companies (AITC) has Daniel Godfrey as its director general, and he sees his main role as representing stockholders' interests. He favors independence for boards of investment trusts and aims to reduce discounts in the long term. He sees a need to stimulate demand, and improve the image of investment trusts in terms of integrity, clarity and transparency. He also aims to improve relations with independent financial advisers.

Good bets for bad markets

Article Abstract:

Stock markets are volatile in 1997 and investors choosing an investment trust should seek some protection against a downturn, while benefiting from rises in stock prices. Some analysts see a focus on the UK as the best bet since this avoid currency risks, while others see geographical diversification as a way of avoiding risk. Some markets may be especially vulnerable such as Thailand and Turkey, but international trusts may be no less defensive than UK trusts.
