Analyst responds to questions on down-sized destroyer

Article Abstract:

The Navy could retain the benefit of its DD(X) development effort if it continues to build DD(X)s until a smaller surface combatant can be designed and developed. Although the ship will be smaller and lighter, it will be very stable in high seas to aid helicopter operations, will be intelligently designed as an integrated entity and will be cheaper.

Clark says each carrier can take out more targets

Article Abstract:

Vern Clark, chief of naval operations, has described that the existing aircraft carriers are more capable in putting steel on target. They could have its aircraft hit four time the number of aim points when compared to the performance of naval carriers in the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
