Demand for vegetables in a Chinese wholesale market

Article Abstract:

A linear approximation of the Almost Ideal Demand System model was applied data from the Chinese wholesale market from the period of 1988 to 1994 to evaluate expenditure, price, and income elasticities. Vegetable consumption is specifically monitored in the country's improving food markets. Results reveal that a positive income elasticity of demand in present in the Chinese markets which is expected to augment commensurate with income. Consumers are also shown to be more receptive to price, an indication of the opportunity for foreign and local competition in the market.

Plant-level dynamics and aggregate productivity growth in the Turkish meat-processing industry: Evidence from longitudinal data

Article Abstract:

An examination on the way plant-level dynamics contribute to aggregate productivity growth in the Turkish meat-processing industry is presented using an aggregate productivity decomposition approach that utilizes plant-level longitudinal data. Results reveal that industry-specific institutional factors must be taken into consideration when shaping policies aimed to improve and sustain aggregate productivity growth.

Household vegetable demand in the Philippines: is there an urban-rural divide?

Article Abstract:

A study to determine the vegetable consumption demand in rural as well as urban Philippine households is conducted. Findings reveal that the main difference was in the quantum of expenditure and not in the quantity of consumption.
