Difficult to forecast weather action
Article Abstract:
Weather Action is a longe-range weather forecaster which successfully predicted gales in the United Kingdom at the start of 1998, six months before they occurred. The company was floated on the Alternative Investment Market in Oct 1997, and has a number of prestigious clients. Weather Action uses solar activity as a guide to future weather. Not all experts in the field see this method as reliable. The company's managing director, Piers Corbyn, is the only person who has total understanding of the technique, though other directors have some understanding of it. Weather Action could make money from joint ventures.

When it's politic not to give: Whitbread and Glaxo-Wellcome are but the latest companies to stop funding the Conservatives. Many shareholder feel such board diktats are not enough - they want a say in deciding how companies make political donations
Article Abstract:
Rolls-Royce shareholders recently refused to authorise directors to give money to political organisations over the next three years. Rolls-Royce had been one of the top benefactors of the Conservative party over the past three years. Shareholders do not like the idea of not knowing who will benefit from their company, and the dwindling flow of coporate donations has prompted speculation of financial crisis at Smith Square.
