Dimethyl sulfoxide to vorinostat: Development of this histone deacetylase inhibitor as an anticancer drug
Article Abstract:
The discovery and development of suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA, vorinostat (Zolinza)), which is a histone deacetylase inhibitor, and the results of SAHA trials in cancer patients are described. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new drug application for vorinostat for treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
