Disclosure doesn't tell all
Article Abstract:
Companies selling personal pension schemes and endowment policies have to be more open about charges from the start of 1995, and some have reduced penalties for early surrender. Not all companies have done so, and those that have may offer poorer terms for investors who hold their policies for the full term. Investors should consider using an independent financial adviser in order to be able to compare the products of different companies. Investors may also split their pension contributions between a number of companies in order to spread risks.

Up pops Brazil, signalling a bumpy ride worldwide
Article Abstract:
The financial crisis in Brazil has upset the bullish view of the UK and US and may indicate that several of 1998's emerging market problems could return. Bond and equity markets are likely to see short-term upsets before there is a solution. UK share prices are high, and news from New York is affecting trading, although there are major differences in the current and likely state of the two economies.
