Distress flare

Article Abstract:

Chemring has been affected by a drop in spending on military consumibles such as distress flares, since military customers account for some 40% of sales. The company forecasts an increase in demand in 1997 and has also focused on reducing costs and levels of debt. This follows an expansion program which was too ambitious. Chemring reported a pre-tax loss of 13.3 million pounds sterling for 1st half 1996 to 1997 and is likely to report a loss for the full year, but could report a profit of 4.3 million pounds for the following year.
