Article Abstract:

Canada's Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) has released its latest report on a list of suspected bogus banks which may be attempting to deceive the public into making deposits. These entities are either intentional fraudulent operations or have not complied with Canadian federal bank laws prior to starting their operations. A scrutiny of the banks listed in OSFI's circular indicates that a considerable number of them exploit banks' existing brand equity and favor fashionable names.
