Effects of dynamic office chairs on trunk kinematics, trunk extensor EMG and spinal shrinkage

Article Abstract:

Dynamic office chairs with movable seats and back rests offer potential physiological advantage over chairs whose position is fixed, but the more significant effect on trunk load is the task performed. Erector spinae electromyography and trunk kinematics are more strongly affected by the task performed than by chair type.

Improving obstacle detection by redesign of walking canes for blind persons

Article Abstract:

Comparison between the traditional straight cane and a curved cane used for obstacle detection by blind persons showed the curved cane was superior in detecting obstacles. Both straight and curved canes produced comparable results for walking speed and drop-off detection.

Effects of sitting versus standing and scanner type on cashiers

Article Abstract:

Retail store managers should consider providing bi-optic scanners for standing checkstands to minimize fatigue, postural stress, and discomfort in cashiers. Repetitive, light manual handling of materials may not allow cashiers adequate recovery time to prevent fatigue.
