Technological acquisitions and the innovation performance of acquiring firms: a longitudinal study

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the effect of acquisitions in the chemicals industry on the innovation performance of the acquiring businesses, focusing both on technological and non-technological acquisitions. Findings suggest that the size of the transferred knowledge base increases innovation in technological acquisitions, while non-technological innovations do not significantly impact the subsequent output of innovation.

The managerial foresight in the context of breakthrough patents, those with a high 'citation impact', an indication that a firm may have developed strategic assets, is explored.
