Expectations vs. Reality: How do prescription drugs grow?

Article Abstract:

Recent survey on the sales growth of pharmaceutical drugs reveals that doctors' prescribing and consumers' buying patterns differ and that the growth should focus on more per prescriber. Pharmaceuticals should grow by increasing the breadth of prescribing i.e., by acquiring new prescribers, rather than by increasing the depth, which gets the existing customers to prescribe them more often. Progressive stages of evidence on how doctors prescribe are presented.
