Experimental studies of trust and human intervention in a process control simulation

Article Abstract:

Human operators' ratings of trust in automation and the properties of the automation on which the trust depends are useful in the prediction and allotment of functions in an automated system. The trust of operators depends on the competence of automation, which affects the performance of the system. Distrust may also set in with a temporary impairment, resulting in a preference for a manual control. The relationship between the monitoring of automation and human trust is thus an inverse one.
