Fast forward for finance

Article Abstract:

Information technology is playing a significant role in the transformation of the finance department. In the past, the function of finance professionals was merely to add numbers and feed these figures to the decision makers. Finance departments used to rely on systems that ran on huge corporate mainframes and were the exclusive domain of the company's technology people. Equipped with sophisticated financial systems and software packages, today's finance directors have a greater participation in decision making and are becoming more focused on the customer. With the rapid pace of technological innovations, the finance function can now generate information faster and in newer ways, and expand its range of activities. This has greatly enhanced the finance department's influence.
