Flotsam and Rexam
Article Abstract:
Rexam is a UK packaging concern which forecasts a 20% drop in profit for 1995 compared with 1994 when the company reported a 224 million pounds sterling pre-tax profit. Customer destocking has affected the packaging industry. Rexam also has to replace its chief executive, David Lyon, scheduled to retire in Jun 1996. Paper prices have reached a plateau in 1995 as demand growth has slowed. The company is boosting its capacity which has increased costs, and this cost increase has yet to be offset by increased business.

Unloved and undervalued - for good reason: What can smaller companies do to make investors love them? Plenty. For a start they could start communicating with all their investors, not just institutions
Article Abstract:
Smaller companies are largely ignored by investors and the DTI has addressed the problem of how to increase interest with its Creating Quality Dialogue document. Many companies ignore the basics such as the annual general meeting which is rarely used to good effect. Companies need to inform investors of the reasons to attent an AGM, and companies should realise that they need to make new investors consider their shares if they are to improve their share price.

Darned elusive EMU(difficulties in achieving European monetary union)
Article Abstract:
There are a number of difficulties in achieving European monetary union (EMU) and a single European currency is not likely to be set up prior to 1999. Members of the European Union (EU) need to achieve a number of conditions if EMU is to be achieved. The budget deficit has to be under 3% of gross domestic product (GDP) while the national debt has to be less than 60% of GDP. Inflation rates also have to converge if union is to be carried out.
