Getting what you want

Article Abstract:

The growing volume and complexity of information reaching managers and other decision makers require more effective information management. Although access to information has improved tremendously due to innovations in communications and computer technologies, it is still quite difficult for people to find the precise information that they require because delivery systems remain weak. Fortunately, data warehousing and intelligent software agents can help information technology (IT) users to sift data and access only what they need. Data warehousing involves taking data from disparate and potentially incompatible locations throughout an organization and storing them in a central data repository. Intelligent agents, on the other hand, are robots that handle all the time-consuming and repetitive tasks of information search so that IT users can use the time they save on more productive work.

Resorting to human

Article Abstract:

The human resources department should learn how to fully exploit the potential of the human resources to ensure the success of the company. This means that the human resources department should help in the development of employees' skills, management of their training needs, creation of clear communication lines and facilitation of information access. It should also be responsible for the institution of flexible policies on working hours and conditions. To achieve all these, the human resources department should conduct strategic planning that will guide their practices. It also has to rely on technology that would facilitate the access and manipulation of everyday information and application of centralized corporate data on strategic planning. The most important technology that human resources department should install are client-server systems and Windows-type interfaces.
