Global foreign investment insurance: the case of MIGA with comparisons to OPIC and private insurance

Article Abstract:

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is a multilateral insurance agency designed to ensure against political self-interests in the distribution of foreign direct investments (FDI) in less developed countries (LDCs). Its goal is to prevent the concentration of FDI in some areas to the disadvantage of other areas. MIGA's history and operations are presented and, where appropriate, comparisons are made with the Overseas Private Investment Co. and other private agencies.

Reinsurance and the management of regulatory ratios and taxes in the property-casualty insurance industry

Article Abstract:

The insurance industry enters into financial reinsurance contracts to reduce regulatory costs. Financial reinsurance reduces the exposure of reinsurers to risk, since it mainly involves the enhancement of statutory and financial reports. Furthermore, financial reinsurance guarantees the reinsurer a return for the accumulation of reinsurance premiums.
