Government goes for low-tech investment

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom plans to introduce three types of benchmarks for its equity, insurance and cash-based Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs). The benchmarks will be called CAT standards, relating to charges, access and terms. The fund management industry is concerned that only index tracking trusts will be eligible for CATs, and argues that investors could believe that they have protection from market falls. They also argue that many trackers are volatile, and are not as low-risk as is sometimes assumed.

North America

Article Abstract:

US stocks have performed well to Jun 1998, but there is no guarantee that this strong performance will continue. US fund managers have been attractive to large companies' stocks which can be easily bought and sold. Corporate earnings forecasts have been downgraded by some analysts. Some investors are buying because they are concerned that they would lose out if they missed further growth. There is a wide range of US funds available to United Kingdom investors.
