Gradus finds life an uphill struggle
Article Abstract:
Gradus raised 3.99 million pounds sterling from a share issue in 1995 and sought to expand carpet maufacturing through a move to loop-piled carpet. There was a delay in importing tufting machines. Imports of loop-piled products did not meet specifications, which further affected sales. These setbacks affected the company's operating margin, and Gradus' pre-tax profit dropped by 14% to 1.53 million pounds sterling in 1st half 1996. The company's pre-tax profit is forecast at 3.4 million pounds sterling for 1st half 1996.
